The Role
Got given a range of tasks, some of which we very tedious. Some tasks were much more interesting, however, these were often completed more quickly and did not come around that often.
The work I was doing was helping other members of the department get more other things done that they would have not been able to do otherwise.
I rarely saw my team leader and he had little involvement with my work. That said, a member of the team was setting my tasks and saw him regularly setting new tasks as I completed others.
Often spent days at a time being quite bored as some tasks were time consuming and tedious. At other times not enough work was set to keep me busy.
Tasks set were generally very low priority, though useful and needed doing.
I did not develop any skills over my placement. I was only required to use Microsoft Office throughout the placement and
The Company
Not much really happened, though people would occasionally stop to talk.
When I turned up, I was not expected. It took three weeks for my computer log in to be sorted. There was no real structure to the placement, only tasks allocated as and when they were though, with no real forward planning.
Did not receive any training.

Though in general the placement was poor, I feel this is more like a one off and I will still seriously consider taking a job after university if I am offered one, which I feel I have a good chance of.
The Culture
Most of the people on summer placements were living in university halls together and it was therefore quite easy to socialise outside work.
University halls provided convenient and affordable accommodation. Going out, whilst not as cheap as while at university, was still relatively inexpensive.
The nightlife was reasonable - not too expensive and quite good fun, though nothing special.
Some social activities were organised through work, though these were relatively infrequent. However, it was still easy to join activities independently of work, either with other interns, or societies around the city.
