    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed carrying out my placement with Mott MacDonald and was very sad when my placement ended!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • All of the members of the team I worked in took on board, listened to and acted on comments/reccomendations etc made by me when suitable. It made me feel like I was very much a part of the team!

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Support was always available whenever required. Even if people were busy they would always try their best to help you or at least point you in the direction of someone who could.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Work levels varied. However, their was always something that needed to be done and kept me busy.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt I was given a lot of responsibility given as I was only a student. contacting clients, carrying out designs etc. I felt this however, challenges you as an engineer and gives you a taste of what like will be like as a graduate and support was always available.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Everything I done at placement provided me with a skill that I could either use or develop while at university to my advantage.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • All the staff were really friendly and easy to talk to. This made settling in very easy.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The 'buddy' I was appointed had only recently joined Mott MacDonald so wasn't entirely familiar with the procedures etc however, I was always kept busy and still managed to cover a good variety of projects during my time.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I did not carry out any formal training during my time. However, I was given opportunities to try new things while with Mott MacDonald on real life projects.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Feedback given by my boss on leaving was very positive. I plan to apply for a graduate position within that team.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was always social trips organised for weekends and also social gatherings after work and sometimes out for lunch!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I did not stay in the city in which I worked so had to travel in which was expensive. Food and drink can potentially be expensive.

  • I didn't really have one!

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Their was always plans ongoing for the next social event (biking, climbing etc)
