    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The atmosphere was really relaxed and flexible and there is a chillout area with lots of food to take as you please, a pool table a dart board, a playstation...

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone here was really pretty friendly and I felt that my work was contributing to the company and being recognized for doing so.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had a project manager who was always available to help with any questions on what I was supposed to be doing, a mentor who was always available to help with how I was supposed to do it and a line manager who was available to talk about broader personal development. All were good and quite willing to overlap help with each other if it made things more convenient and others within the company were willing to help out when appropriate.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was kept working and always had stuff to do but rarely felt pressure to be getting more done.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • After the initial training I was writing code for real applications (it was being reviewed but everyones code was reviewed) and my opinion was trusted with regard to the things that I had been working on. In all I suppose I was given as much responsibility as could feasibly be reasonable for someone who was new and only their for 7 weeks.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I'm not sure whether the skills for web development are actually going to be useful in later life but they may well be. The ability to code will no doubt come in handy wherever I end up, and there were some interesting (optional) talks put on over lunches which gave me slightly broader coding experiance. My people skills were also developed by my internship, the only problem being a worry that this environment may be an unusually nice place to work, so I still don't know what it is like having a less friendly job.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was very relaxed and whilst I was here there was a picnic and multiple pub trips. You can take a break whenever you wish to go play pool or darts or table tennis and after lunch there are micromachines (playstation racing game) tournaments.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The necessary admin was well organized. I had plenty of support to help me through and suitable work to do.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • My line manager was available to discuss personal development both within and beyond the company and others were available to help with technical learning. I was taught to program in C#, HTML and CSS to some extent and work git to a competent level, opportunities for getting insight in more technical ideas, automated testing, functional programming etc and

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • They seemed to be quite happy with most interns and I think any future application would stand a good chance.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • 4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It is London but north enough and on the northern line so that you can conveniently live quite far out. The internship paid twice what I needed to live on for that time.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I'm not that far from the center of London so it would probably have been great if I had cared. The local pub and restaurants were fairly good if that counts as nightlife.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I was invited to a house party at a strangers house to go climbing with people from work lots of trips out to restaurants and various morale trips such as wine tasting. If you want to get away from work colleagues then central London is not that far away at all.
