The Role
was enjoyable when I had work to do but there were periods where I had finished my tasks and my manager had no more work to give me
I felt that I was a valued part of the team
I was given good support on my tasks as and when I needed it
Spent too much time waiting to be given tasks after informing my manager that I had completed previous tasks and asking for more
I was given some responsibilty in my day to day tasks
I definitely gained knowledge over the workings of the combustions & casings part of the gas turbine. I also learnt a lot about the design considerations and process which I hope to be able to apply to my studies
The Company
Generally the atmosphere was great, there was always someone to chat to etc but it was never noisy enough that I got distracted
The Internship could definitely have been organsised better, I was placed in a department that was in the process of being merged with another and as such the manager that I was assigned was no longer directly responsible for the work that was set out for me. This meant that I had very little contact with my assigned manager and the main person responsible for me became my team manager.
Rolly-Royce helped expand my knowledge of the design process by taking me to see a Rolls-Royce manufacturing facility and an external supplier which I found really useful in expanding my knowledge of the work that I had been assigned
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
If this had been my only Internship with Rolls-Royce then I may have considered not coming back. I have however had a previous placement with them which I really enjoyed and felt like I contributed and learnt a lot more. I am hopeful that any future employment I get with the company will be more like my first placement than my second.
The Culture
The social side of my placement was great, there was always something to do. I was able to catch up with friends made the previous year and have made many more.
Derby as a city was quite cheap to live in and nights out were never too expensive
There aren't many places to go in Derby but there were are few places that we kept going back to. Will never forget Scream!
They were quite I few opportunities that I didnt take advantage of but I know of other interns that did and enjoyed them greatly
