The Role
I really enjoyed this placement right from the start, I only wish it was longer, the time just flew by! I got along very well with everyone and would consider my self very lucky to have another chance to work there again. I would defiantly recommend this placement to anybody.
I spent most my time at SAS with the MIS team, who I felt were very happy to have me as part of their team. They were very friendly and helpful and made my experience all that more enjoyable. My project work was also very valued by my project leaders, which always gave me a very satisfying feeling. As a whole I felt like I was part of the team from day one.
I had all the support I needed and more at SAS. My line manager set up weekly meetings to make sure I was ok and everything was on track. My project leader had welcomed me to the team and directed me to the right people to talk to for different problems if i had any. It was up to me to seek help, but everyone was always more than happy to help.
My project required a lot of attention, so most of my days were packed full of project work and meetings. At the beginning of my placement I was put on a few very useful training courses, but I still had plenty of time to network.
I was given full responsibility over my project, which was one of the things I enjoyed the most about my placement. All the employees have a great attitude towards work and gave me regular check ups. I never felt stressed about the work load. At any point I felt stuck or lost I would schedule a meeting to sort it out.
I already feel as if I have a head start in any job application, I have learnt so much working for SAS! The skills I have developed and gained at SAS will defiantly help me with my final year of studies, giving me the professional attitude I need towards work.
The Company
In my office the atmosphere was very laid back, we even had music playing. But everyone always had their heads down with the occasional 10 minute coffee break. I would say the work balance in my office was pretty much perfect.
I felt their was a lot of planning and organisation that had gone into this placement, there were very few hiccups. I really did appreciate this aspect of the placement, I was never felt lost.
Right at the start of the placement I was put on a few very expensive training course, where I was placed amongst real clients! SAS have invested greatly in me and I am very grateful. The skills I learnt in those training courses proved to be very useful in my project work. At the end of my training courses I got certificates which I get to keep and show off!
Company Parties/Events
I would love to come backhand work for SAS again, first I need to complete my first year of university and hope they have a position when i graduate.
The Culture
Altogether there were six placement students including myself. We all got along very well, most nights we went out independently for meals and trips to the cinema. I would say thee was a very good social scene amongst us.
Living in Marlow was very expensive and I ended up paying a lot. The social life in Marlow isn't too great either most nights we drove to High Wycombe for entertainment which isn't a great area either.
The nightlife didn't seem to exist in Marlow and I went home to London on the weekends. But this wasn't really a big issue for me, most nights I would hang out with the other placement students over a meal or we would go to the cinema in High Wycombe.
Not particularly but I was always kept busy during my stay in Marlow.
