The Role
Took a while to get up to speed with all the going ons in the department but once got over the initial learning curve was very enjoyable
Was given several projects to work on by a lot of the members which made me feel like a valued member.
My supervisor was excellent guiding me exceptionally well and giving me all the help that was needed and more.
I always had plenty to be getting on with and was never left with nothing to do.
It felt like I was given a lot of responsibility but not more than I felt comfortable with and there was always support around me if it got too tough.
It was slightly outside my degree program but the more competence based skills that I picked up such as time management will certainly be a help in the future.
The Company
Started off in a Portacabin a little out of the way but were then promoted to a new office about 3 weeks from the end of my placement and when all members of the team were in the same office was a lot better.
Very good, had lots of projects set up for me to pick up immediately and lots of manageable targets to achieve.
Was given access to several meetings to help aid my development and was also shown numerous of Rolls-Royce processes that will help in the future.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Car
Subsidised/Company Gym
Opportunity to return to the same area of the business with no additional interview/application process (as long as you get a good review from your line manager) and ability to go straight to interview if you want to change business areas. If you do the summer internship before you graduate I believe you get a graduate job as long as you do a good job on placement.
The Culture
Lived in student accommodation with the rest of the interns who chose that option.
Cost of student accommodation was a bit expensive but was cheapest option for the summer i would imagine.
Derby is Derby is not the most exciting place in the world but close to Alton Towers which was good.
AGA was there to put on some social events and believe there was rounders and stuff.
