The Role
Got really involved in the work and felt like my job added value. Really interesting too!
My boss was new and I was the only one under him as it was a new engine development program (Trent XWB-97k). This meant I had to be professional and part of the team from the outset. people treated me as part of the team and not as the summer intern.
Because my manager was new, guidance was limited, I had to find help from others. Saying this though, support from my boss was tremendous and he was always willing to answer my questions.
I was given a lot of jobs that suited me. However I found it difficult to say no to people about doing a particular job when I may have been overladen a bit.
I was a trusted member of the team and often had to conduct meetings without my supervisor.
My role made me appreciate the roles of many components in the gas turbine more, however technically I did not learn anything technical.
The Company
Good fun - everyone was up a laugh. Saying this, everyone got their heads down when needed.
My placement wasn't really organized, rather I was given a role and I did what ever was necessary to fulfill the role.
Time was taken in explaining things to be in good detail.
Would snap up an offer with Rolls. I was told I was recommended however I am still waiting on the offer.
The Culture
Staying in Derby halls meant you lived with people in the same boat - made some great friends.
Derby is very cheap.
Derby itself is not tremendous, but if you are with the right people you can have a great time!
I attended the Bloodhound presentation during my placement and it was really well organised and easy to attend.
