About You
The vacation scheme was a lot of fun. I got on really well with the people that were on the scheme and there were a lot of fun events.
Obviously, there is only so much you can do but the lawyers were keen to get us involved, especially if you would go out to seek work.
There were some really informative talks and the supervisors were also really helpful.
I don't think the work will be incredibly helpful for school but it is a definite leg up in the jobs market however short that may be.
The Company
There was a schedule presented to us on the first day and we stuck to that throughout. We sat with our supervisors and had scheduled events nearly everyday.
The firm continued to emphasise that we were valued potential joiners so there was a real emphasis on teaching us.
The firm let us sit in with the real lawyers but doing a vacation scheme never gives the full picture of the work obviously. On the other hand, speaking with the lawyers gave us a chance to ask as many questions as we wanted and to receive candid answers.
The firm's culture was evidenced throughout the many events that were held for us.
I would never have considered accepting an offer without the scheme.
Everything Else
We were paid a gross amount (so that we would receive 900 pounds even after tax) so it was even more than advertised.
We were constantly surrounded by lawyers that took it upon themselves to teach us more about the firm and about what their work is like.
We were told about the different societies and pro bono activities and could get involved if we wanted to even during the scheme.
