The Role
A superb insight into a large engineering company. The work was varied with lots of opportunities to experience all aspects of the business.
Everyone within the team, and wider business area seemed interested in the work I was completing. I was also fully included in team activities, within and out with the office environment.
Regular one-to-one meetings took place with my manager to ensure I fully understood my deliverables and that the work I was completing was adding value to the business. I was always provided with feedback / improvement suggestions on the work I had completed.
There was never a moment where I had nothing to do, however I was also given enough time to talk to colleagues to enhance my knowledge of the company operation.
I had the full responsibility for ensuring my project work was completed on-time and to a high standard.
Before beginning the placement, my manager was in contact asking what business areas of interest I had. This allowed me to be assigned a project that was interesting and relevant to my area of study.
The Company
The team were friendly and approachable. There was a good balance between work and 'banter' between fellow colleagues.
Once I had accepted the placement offer, all the admin was completed before arriving at the company therefore was able to get straight to work. An Early Career Advisor was able to resolve any issues I had during the placement.
Training was provided where necessary. If there was an area of the business I had a keen interest in, I was able to complete further courses to enhance my knowledge.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
My performance was reviewed throughout the placement, allowing my manager to pass on comments to my Early Career Advisor. There was opportunities to specify what areas of the business I may wish to work in the future.
The Culture
All summer placement students stayed together in student accommodation therefore it was easy to socialise after work and at weekends.
The student accommodation was expensive for the basic standard it was.
A small selection of pubs and bars.
There was the opportunity to join the graduate / apprentice association, who organised activities outside of work.
