The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my summer at Rolls-Royce.
The attitude of the people at Hucknall site was really good. Anyone was more than happy to help with things I was stuck on, and I was given a good level of responsibility.
I was given a fair few things to do independently, but if I needed any help then I just had to ask.
Workload came in bits. Some days I was very busy and then a few days later I would be looking for more things to do. It required a lot of time management to even out the jobs that needed doing.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility, but everything I did was laid out by someone and double checked by someone else.
The placement expanded on my knowledge from uni and has given me new skills that I can take into my next year of study.
The Company
The people in the office were great fun and the atmosphere was good. The only dull moments were when everyone went to the large official meetings once a week, so the office got quite empty.
The introduction to the placement had a few hiccups, and I suffered from IT problems at the beginning. It took two weeks for all my online systems to work, which set me back a bit.
There were a few online courses that I took, and we had 3 days out organized for us to see the operations in different areas of Rolls-Royce.

I would love to work there again next summer. It would be even better if I could have a guaranteed location at the time of the placement being offered.
The Culture
The social scene was great. Since I was commuting in from Sheffield to Hucknall, it was harder for me to join in any spontaneous events, but there was certainly a lot going on.
I was living in student accommodation in Sheffield so it was cheap. This was slightly offset by the commuting cost of driving in every day.
Nightlife in Hucknall is non existent, but Nottingham was relatively easy to get to and was great.
Other than socializing with other interns, there was nothing else.
