The Role
Honestly such a great internship. There were ample opportunities to get involved in various aspects of the business, not just the team you were placed, and everyone was more than willing to help and to make you feel welcome.
Everyone in my team made a big effort from day one to get to know you, both in the office and out of it. They would all make the time to explain anything and to give you feedback, whilst also making sure they made the effort to get to know you as an individual
My line manager ensured that whenever I had any questions or queries he would be there to help, but the entire team all made themselves approachable so that I felt like I could ask anyone about an issue.
Most days I was busy with ongoing tasks to complete. There were a couple days were I had more than I felt comfortable with at first but you soon manage to figure out balancing it. At the same time there were also a few days where I created some work for myself when there wasn't enough for the team to give me.
They trusted your research which would eventually be used in reports for clients which shows a fair amount of responsibility. You were also trusted to use the phones and speak to other agents.
A huge amount. I will be studying for my masters next year and its incredibly helpful having an insight into the industry and what is eventually expected of you as a grad, as many have said that the grad scheme is an extension of the summer internship but with more responsibility.
The Company
It was always a friendly environment to be in and every week there would be the opportunity to have lunch or go for a drink after work with your team, and there were a few evenings out organised too
Really well organised, with plenty of opportunity to find out about other departments through the talks. Also no excuse not to meet the other interns and grads through all of the social events organised
They invested a fair amount by giving you the responsibility to complete necessary tasks. I think a fair amount of development occurred through being thrown into social scenarios with scenior figures and being expected to hold your own, which will be an important aspect of the job
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
I managed to stay on for a further month as an intern and then another month on a temporary contract, so I will now apply for the 2014 grad scheme which would be the dream if I were to secure a place.
The Culture
Great social scene, with various events organised
Not cheap
Great nightlife, just pricey
So many from sports activities, to after work drinks, to attending awards evenings
