The Role
On the whole I was exposed to some good project management experience. Tasks were often repetitive but can understand why due to the nature of the role, worked with a nice team. Sometimes treated like a baby though
Was hard to break the bubble of being 'just a student' for a whole despite exceeding many expectations. Later on I was piled with work to make up for poor workforce planning
Could ask for more when needed. Team around me was supportive
Varied drastically. From bored to over the top busy. Two students were drafted in to replace my entire workload after I left. Two.
Was allowed to run with many accounts. Wasn't allowed responsibility for my own time planning though in regards to getting experience outside of the team
I'm now an emailing wizard and I learnt that I didn't want to go into IT ever again.
The Company
Again this varied drastically
HR were somewhat non existant. Came alive during a short CSR project but couldn't negotiate with managers regarding time scales. Learnt how to do my role and then that was it. Development came through acquiring more work. Bit of a shambles really.
None at all really to think of it. Shame.
Wasn't invited back despite going above and beyond the call of duty throughout. This was due to me being vocal about the flaws in the program. Students were seen and not heard but I refused to be just seen as cheap labour. I wanted to learn too. I'm now on to bigger and better things :)
The Culture
20 students so quite a lively atmosphere if you were based in the main sales office
Reading is reasonable not bargin but has a uni so there are student nights out
More bars than clubs and an oversized aggy union at Reading Uni. Good nights can be had if you make them though!
Students created a football team amongst themselves.
