The Role
Working at the Civil Service was one of the few experiences that I've had which made me realise what I want to do as a future career.
My team, department and colleagues in the wider Civil Service put a lot of effort in to make sure I felt valued.
I had a manager and mentor who looked after my day-to-day job and career development opportunities. The range of opportunities for the latter was outstanding. This ranged from training/educational courses to work shadowing.
I always had the opportunity to take on more work but equally there was never any pressure to stay longer than 9-5 and working hours were very flexible.
Enough to feel that I was doing work which was useful to the team but not so much that I felt particularly pressurised.
Skills development opportunities were widely available and I took advantage of this. Undoubtedly they will be useful in the future.
The Company
Very good, I felt as though I made some good friends, everyone made an effort to welcome me. It was one of the best elements of the internship.
I had no complaints on this front, but experiences varied across the internship and from department to department.
I had many development opportunities and was actively encouraged to take advantage of them.

Working from home
Not bad but neither do you get fast-tracked into a grad job. The experience provided by the internship is very valuable.
The Culture
Plenty of social opportunities but not so many that it was overwhelming!
Central London is not cheap, thankfully I stayed with friends.
