The Role
Very much so! I enjoyed the final 6months more as I felt settled in and confident in the workplace.
My colleagues never once treated me as an intern. My work was valued and I felt respected and equal with other employees.
I had weekly meetings with my manager to discuss any issues and talk about the things I wanted to work on.
There were some months that were very hectic and busy and others where I could leave the office on time. But I always had enough work to be getting on with and could pick up other projects I was interested in.
I was given a lot of responsibility from day one. This included hosting meetings and conferences with colleagues across the world and writing documents that were distributed globally.
I learnt so many valuable skills that can be transferred to my studies and future jobs. These include time management, communication and professionalism.
The Company
The office was always busy and normally full of lots of chocolate for everyone! It was a relaxed atmosphere where people chatted and you could take breaks as and when you wanted.
I was the first intern in my role so together my manager and I established the best way if working together. There was a big intern community and networking was encouraged between the intern.
GSK fantastic in arranging inductions and training throughout the year so that I knew e wry thing about the company values, products, processes etc.
Subsidised/Company Gym
International Travel
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
Very appealing! Gsk really look after their employees and its such a large organisation that you are forever learning something new.
The Culture
Yes, there was a large intern community and a group IP unite which arranged events on behalf of students.
I lived at home and commuted so found this very reasonable but other students lived in London and found it a little expensive.
The nightlife where the company is based was not great but there were many fun places a short distance away.
There were opportunities to socialise outside of work.
