The Role
A real sense of worth, and involvement in the company
Colleagues were very respectful of 'interns' and happy to give up their time to help/ talk/ advise
Manager was excellent - devoted more than the time required
Can't expect too much responsibility as an intern, but there was always plenty to keep me busy/ learning if I asked around or perhaps sometimes outside of my work area - but this broadened my understanding of the company.
Certain tasks were relatively important to some of the production environments of the bank and hence carried great responsibility.
The general 'soft skills' i.e. interacting with colleagues, seniors and giving presentations, preparing work to a professional standard all helped with my professional career - not specifically with my degree, which is unrelated.
The Company
Very hard working team, and very busy but very friendly bunch and made time for you if you needed it.
Many senior speaker events, many educational events, many social events, lots of 'networking' opportunities and a fantastic week of training at the start of the scheme.
A lot of time and resources were invested by many people in the business, both the HR team in charge of organisation and many a senior manager within the bank - felt very much valued as the possible future of the organisation
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Was offered a graduate job with the company on the final day of the internship
The Culture
Some of the other interns were a little too rowdy, but the majority were really friendly and appropriate at social events organised by the company. There were also many drinking sessions at weekends organised outside of the internship
Central London doesn't come cheap
When a man is bored of london, he is bored of life
Certain activities were organised by the HR team, others were available through your own initiative, however slightly limited as an intern as opposed to a full time employee
