The Role
Choosing to do my placement at GSK was a decision that I did not regret and would highly recommend them.
I was treated like a regular employee and made some great friends.
There is plenty of support available and opportunities for setting goals and targets during your placement year. I had weekly 1 to 1s with my manager and was given guidance where needed.
There were times where the team were less busy however these were soon followed by lots of hard work. I was never bored nor overwhelmed by the volume of work.
You're given real responsibility and treated the same as other employees.
Lots of opportunities to develop and stretch yourself. All placement year students have access to e-learning modules.
The Company
The teams on the floor I worked on were very sociable and friendly. Thanks to the open-plan "hot desk" layout (where you aren't assigned to one particular desk) I was able to change seats every day and work around new people if I wanted to. There was also a lot of cake as it seemed to be someone's birthday every week!
I felt very welcome in my team from day 1 and there were plenty of opportunities for me to get involved.
There are lots of development materials for GSK employees to use and personal development is strongly encouraged.
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
If you are interested in applying for one of the graduate schemes at GSK then there are opportunities available for you but you won't skip the entire recruitment process and be awarded a job automatically.
The Culture
There are a lot of placement students at GSK and a definite sense of community with frequent nights out and socials planned.
It's generally quite expensive as GSK House is minutes outside of London. This does mean there's a lot of things to do outside of work though!
Though central London is only a short tube ride away (this means nights out can be expensive), there isn't a lot to do in the immediate surrounding area (Brentford).
GSK have a large number of industrial placement students in the UK and so have an internal committee of IP students that organise events inside and outside of work
