The Role
I mainly did paper pushing, which is understandable in the sector. I sought out some time doing hands on engineering which was hugely enjoyable.
The effort demonstrated was clearly picked up by my colleagues and meant a lot to me; by the end of the placement we all had a huge amount of respect for each other.
Was given a load of time and advice by my supervisor.
My supervisor tried hard to find work for me, but with the nature of the department, it was sometimes difficult. On the whole, didn't have a lot of work, spent many hours doing personal research, most work was sought out by myself.
Due to the nature of the department, only suitably qualified and experienced personnel could work on the bulk of tasks, most work was non-crucial, but this is to be expected! Did however work on one large job from start to finish for a client.
Cannot stress how much working in the industry opens your eyes! You learn the work ethic required, people skills (big one!) and how to conduct your work in industry.
The Company
Casual dress, friendly people and good respect for each other.
Little planning, most work was sought out by myself.
Apart from the standard salary, nothing apart from an expenses paid site visit.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Have seen the potential of working here and am greatly considering working here in the future.
The Culture
Was only one other intern, we got along great.
Could not afford to live in the area with the project managers wage yet alone mine! Hence socialising was very expensive too.
Literally none.
There was a football team and a small gym.
