The Role
I enjoyed it a lot. The job was fun, without stress or any unreachable targets. I learned a lot from my colleagues.
The group I was working with was very "un-programmer like". A lot of the time everyone was joking, telling stories and so on. It felt like everyone was friends with everyone else.
My manager was always there when I needed to know how something works, how I should proceed with the implementation or simply how should I go around doing something. If I ever got stuck, I could always go to him and ask for assistance.
I had a whole feature on my own, so I had to manage my own workflow. The manager said that he did not expect me to finish it or not, just to do a good job at it.
I had to add a feature that took about 8 weeks. I could decide on the underlying implementation and the user interface, pretty much everything. I did ask for assistance from my supervisor a few times because I had no previous experience in making commercial software. As long as I did not make something completely backwards, the manager would accept my decisions.
Working on a commercial software was all the experience I could ask for. From databases, to working in teams and delivering a product. Everything will surely one day come in handy.
The Company
It depends on the time of the day. In the morning everyone was slow and didn't talk much. Later in the day people started talking a lot more, telling jokes, discussing news, deciding on features.
It started with a 2 week training course. After that I had to work for 8 weeks straight till the end of the internship. There was always someone I could ask questions about what to do next.
I had a two week training course. Considering that the whole internship was 10 weeks, I spend 20% of that learning. And I still got paid for it.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
They offered me another internship next year.
The Culture
We could talk during the lunch break or training. After that we all got sent to different departments, so we did not have that much opportunities to talk.
The company provides cheap rooms that are located at the 4th floor of the company building. I enjoyed the 2 minute commute from work to home.
No idea, never went out.
Never looked for such.
