The Role
Good variety of work; some tasks better than others. Delcam runs a rotation scheme where 10 weeks are spent in each of 5 departments. Very nice and friendly staff. You are made to feel valued as an employee.
All of the staff at the company are friendly and approachable, from the upper management to other new starters.
Extensive training was given on Delcam's software and managers are always willing to provide support and guidance. A lot of the staff travel, so it may be difficult to contact someone directly immediately.
This varied depending on the department. Most of the time there was always work to do, but never overloaded. There will always be people to talk to if more work is needed, or you feel you have too much.
I was running the show! Or at least it felt like it at times. I had only been working at Delcam for a short time before being afforded relatively high levels of responsibility, such as training customers and presenting to sales partners.
Many of the skills I learnt at Delcam are transferable to any business. This applies not only directly to the work that was being completed, but also to my daily experiences, which have helped to provide greater insight as to how to effectively work within a company.
The Company
Everyone is fun, friendly and approachable. The atmosphere seems relaxed, but not in a 'time-wasting' way.
The placement scheme at Delcam has been running for a number of years now works well, with the departmental rotations allowing greater insight as to how the company is run, as well as meaning the placement student is given a greater variety of work.
At the end of each rotation a placement review with the manager of the department is arranged, where they can provide feedback on how you approached the work in their department. This allows you to improve with each successive department. Each placement student is given a mentor, who they can approach if needed.

Was offered a Summer placement this coming year, as I have two more years of university remaining.
The Culture
With Delcam employing students for Summer and year-long placements, as well as taking on graduates, there are plenty of people to socialise with. Most end up living in a similar area and have similar personalities meaning everyone gets on very well. As mentioned previously, all of the members of staff at Delcam are easy to talk to.
It is Birmingham, so it can be pretty expensive at times. The accommodation I found was relatively cheap and there are always fun things to do on the cheap if you look for them.
Many pubs, clubs and bars.
There are plenty of nearby gyms and sports clubs. Delcam also runs a number of subsidised social activities, such as rock-climbing and golf.
