The Role
Overall it was an enjoyable experience.. Everybody I met during the placement was very friendly and eager to help. The work itself could have been a bit more interesting, though, but then again I was only an intern and so there was only so much I could do!
All of my colleagues were very friendly and tried to make me feel included. The best part of the internship for me was the fact that most of the members of my team were very friendly.
My supervisors were very supportive when there were things I was unsure about or if I ever had questions. People always seemed happy to help, even if they did have a lot of work on (which they normally did).
For the most part of the internship, I was extremely busy, and often had to decline work because I already had too much on. However, this wasn't the case every single day, as there were some days where there wasn't much to do. But overall I was kept very busy.
There was not a huge amount of responsibility I was given, but there were a couple of projects where I was. There were also times where I had to call other colleagues for information.
I am aiming for a graduate job in a different Division, and so much of what I learnt will not be incredibly useful going further into the future. However, there are some skills I did learn that will be beneficial, such as how to write formal letters.
The Company
People tended to be friendly. However, with everyone having a lot of work on there wasn't much time to talk to everyone.
The whole internship was organised pretty well, starting from the beginning with a week of various training and ice-breakers. We were always kept informed of important dates.
At the beginning of the internship, each intern undertook 3 days of training which was relevant to their division.
The firm as a whole seems like a great place to work. They do pay a lot of attention to each individual, and everyone always seems willing to help.
The Culture
During my placement, there wasn't much socialising with the other interns.
My placement was in Birmingham, where costs tend to be reasonable.
During my placement, I did not make use of the nightlife. However, as I live in Birmingham, I do know that the nightlife can be good!
During my placement, there was not really anything I was able to partake in outside of work.
