The Role
The work I completed during my placement year was varied and interesting, and I was asked if there were any clients I was particularly interested in working on. Everyone was easy to get on with and happy to help me when I needed it!
I got to know my colleagues well during my placement year, both during work time and in a more social setting. I was treated the same as all of my colleagues, despite being on a placement.
I had a line manager who gave me day-to-day advice and guidance, as well as opportunities to speak with senior managers about how they could help me get the most out of my placement year.
As with all audit roles, there were busy periods and quieter periods. My workload during busy season was manageable for some of my level, and there was always help available from more senior colleagues. During quieter periods, I was put onto various other projects which helped to broaden my experiences during the year.
The amount of responsibility I was given was the same as the graduate trainees. This suited me well, as I was able to take ownership of my work and gain valuable feedback.
The communication, time management and technical skills I have developed during my placement are indeed skills for life, both within the industry I was working and hopefully onwards in other areas.
The Company
The atmosphere in my office was extremely positive, there were always general social events to attend, as well as events organised especially for trainees.
The placement was very well organised, I was allocated a line manager who made time to help me with university portfolio work as well as my day-to-day job queries.
I was treated as a graduate trainee, which meant I was I attended the same training sessions and development meetings as they did.
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare from home
I have been offered a graduate job as a result of my placement year, which I have accepted.
The Culture
As well as organised events, there were several informal chances to get to know fellow placement students and colleagues.
I was living in the same area as I attend university so I had a good idea of living/socialising costs before embarking on my placement year.
I worked in the same area as I attend university so I had a good idea of the nightlife before embarking on my placement year.
There were sports team training/matches and social events on a regular basis.
