The Role
A fantastic placement in a brilliant environment- It was stimulating, interesting- I felt the work I was doing was contributing real value to changing the local government body for the better.
Such a lovely team- lively dedicated and dynamic- they took me in as one their own, I went along to all of the out of work social events so truely felt part of the team.
I was given the support I was needed to set myself up and complete my project- I was also give a buddy who checked on my progress and helped me out with any questions or issues.
Really busy placement which I loved- I was given responsibility from the work go and was able to truely shape my own project.
I had so much autopnomy to set up my own meetings and carve out the direction of my costing project.
The intership gave me a true flavour of what it was like to work for shropshire council and eqquipped me to go on and successfully attain a placement on the graduate scheme.
The Company
Dynamic, active, busy- completely contrary to what I expected a council to be like- the team I worked within was quite young and totally engaged with their new role.
There was a real opportunity to decide the direction of the project for myself- so I was really able to organise it without much intervention.
They offered me many different courses which really aided my wider knowledge.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
National Travel
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
Thegraduate scheme leading on from the internship is a brilliant scheme- every ex-grad I have spoken to are lined up for or already have a job within the council at a management position- they really value graduates and if you are good you have the opportunity to rise to the top.
The Culture
Brilliant- loads of activities to partake in, plenty of socialising to be done in sleepy shropshire!
Affordable but more expensive to the student lifestyle I was used to- this was offset by the paypacket though- which more than met my needs.
Quaint pubs and lively bars but not many clubs (which I feel is a bit better) perhaps not too suited to a party animal due the the rurality of the county.
I joined crossfit with my colleges, we scheduled meals out, cooked for one and other and went to charity events (i.e. a game of rounders)- there was never a dull moment!
