    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Sometimes the job was a little repetitive but the location and colleagues I worked with were brilliant. Wanting to come back as a graduate.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Wasn't treated as a student but a member of the team. Got any education I needed and could quite happily go and ask more experienced colleagues for help if needed.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Any support or guidance that I needed I was given. Was asked if needed any but majority of the time wasn't needed.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Depending on the day and time of year. Close to a product release, very very busy. Middle of development, not so much.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • More and more responsibility as I went through the year and had more knowledge. Was always challenged.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Beyond my degree, loads. Towards my degree, very little. Programming techniques were improved, but IBM don't make games! ;)

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very relaxed, informative between team members but formal with managerial positions. Everyone would talk to each other. Very little tension unless stressed with work!

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Everything was planned from start to finish.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Not much, helped me with anything I wanted but didn't go too into the extra mile zone.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • On Fast Track process. Hope to pass(!)

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Given we are Software Engineers the social scene is a little less than most others but we went out and had fun every few weekends. We would also go to the pub at lunchtimes if the weather was nice or if it was someones birthday.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Cost of living was high because of the area (that I am used to anyway). Southampton only down the road for a night out.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Location of work. None. Down the road, plenty.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Quite a few, Wii games, football, cricket (in the summer...), tennis. All with work colleagues.

    4/5
