The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship. The firm exceeded any prior expectations of RBC and investment banking I had.
As a whole, RBC has a very family-like culture. Managers and senior staff generally have an open-door policy which creates a sense of equality. I was constantly given important tasks, praise and meetings to discuss my progress, which made me feel extremely valued.
I had frequent meetings with not only my line manager but also HR to check up on my progress and for me to discuss any questions or issues I may have had. HR were extremely quick and efficient in dealing with any issues I had.
I was given a substantial amount of work to complete, more over, the work was important and was taken from some of my team members. This allowed me to be of value and lift some of their workload from them, whilst showing a high degree of trust in me. I did have some spare time during my day, especially as I became quicker, however this allowed for me to ask for extra work. (Which always look good!)
I was given a huge amount of responsibility. My Work had relatively strict deadlines and if done incorrectly, could cause issues for a number of other departments. However I was given plenty of chances to double check, and so too did my colleagues. Being given this important responsibility (Not just paper work) made me feel valued and trustworthy.
I have not only gained a substantial amount of knowledge of investment banks, the different processes and sectors, I have also developed socially and emotionally in terms of how to act, speak, and behave in such an organisation and what is required of me as an employee.
The Company
Everyday was fun and interactive. My team were hard-working and goal orientated, however knew how to have a laugh. I was made to feel welcome and part of the team from day one. Amazily friendly people.
Very organised. We were even given a Calender of when events such as trainings and meeting would be.
Not only were we paid a significant amount, we were given constant training (even a chance to go to Bloomberg's HQ!), constant checking up, and even designated a mentor for the duration of the internship and university.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I will 100% apply for this firm for next summer. Due to the my mind blowing experience, I now feel a sense of loyalty towards the firm.
The Culture
There were frequent networking events and opportunities to meet not only RBC employees but also other graduates and interns. ( An apprentice style event was set up to bring our placements to an end which was an opportunity to bond with other students, develop our team work skills, but most importantly, to have fun!)
Relatively expensive however this was expected for Greater London. But RBC give canteen subsidies.
Situated in the Heart of London. Need I say more?
I was constantly being emailed opportunities to attend training session, networking events and socials. E.G. I got involved with RBC Blue Water Project to help clean up the Thames
