The Role
I had a really good time this summer at RBC being part of the Rates Sales team. I feel I managed to make the most out of my time there and accumulated a great amount of knowledge and skills. At RBC you are given immediate exposure and also the chance to make a valuable contribution to the company. From the very beginning you are made to feel as an integral part of the business.
I managed to integrate very well within my team over the summer. I was always given support and guidance, and always felt appreciated and valued no matter how small my contribution to the team was. Everyone was always very keen to teach me new things and give me detailed insights into the work they were doing. I felt I learnt a lot this way.
My manager was excellent! He always found the right balance between providing me with constructive criticism and recognition for the tasks I was assigned to do. Always felt challenged but at the same time very much appreciated!
I had a very good balance between the tasks I was assigned to do and also enough spare time which I dedicated to seeing other division and networking with people from across the business.
Having worked within Sales the amount of responsibility and exposure I could take on was limited. Nonetheless I was given different tasks and projects to support my senior colleagues.
I believe I managed to learn a lot of new skills and accumulate a significant amount of knowledge this summer, which is already proving useful at university as I am a finance student and will also come in use when I start a graduate scheme.
The Company
The atmosphere within my team always had a friendly tone on. I believe they achieved the right balance between hard work and still maintaining strong and enjoyable relationships among themselves.
The internship was very well coordinated by the HR Team. We had numerous speaker series throughout the course of the internship which provided us with insight within other business areas and also the opportunity to network with senior colleagues form those areas. Moreover, we also had additional events organised for us interns only; to give us a chance to know each other better and build friendships.

I am now part of the RBC Capital Markets 2014 Graduate Scheme! I cannot wait to fly to New York! :)
The Culture
We had a very united group of interns and we always tried to do as much stuff together as possible. It was great!
London is expensive but there were plenty of places where they had deals on!
Plenty of bars and restaurants where you could go with colleagues after work. The city was always buzzing in the evening!
