    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Fun at the beginning, however we were moved as our department shut down half way through the year and neither of us (myself and the other production intern) really found our place in the new department.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • In the first department I felt quite involved with the work that was going on and with the events in the department itself. In the second department I was a lot less included in any events or discussions, but I was given a lot of work to do in a lot of different areas so I felt more needed work wise.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given a lot of supervision and support from my first supervisor, he always explained what was going on in the department and what was expected of me, he also taught me a lot regarding making games and using vectors. I didn't really see much of my supervisor in the second department.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Quite busy in my first dart net, then we had no work to do for nearly a monthlies the department was closed down/ we were moved to the next one, which was quite hard. Then in the new department there was a lot more work to do, so it felt a lot more worthwhile.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A lot in the first department, sometimes as much as character and prop design in games, which was incredibly fun and by far the most enjoyable part of the internship. There wasn't really any responsibility in the second department, which was disheartening at times.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt a lot from my first supervisor and a lot more from other artists/game designers in both departments, my skills in a lot of vital programmes also improved, I'm pleased with this part of the internship, there are a lot of new skills I can put on my CV. I'd have liked to learn more from the first supervisor, but it can't be helped.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very fun in the first department, quite fun in the next even though I was less involved. Plenty of cake and delicious goodies in both departments.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Not that well organised, given the move halfway through. I came to improve my art and programming skills in the production department and by the end was making excel spreadsheets, which was not so great.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • A little in department one but not really after that.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I'd look at working here in the future, however the area I would have been working in is t there anymore, however the general feel of the workplace was really good, it was a great atmosphere.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was, there were a lot of meals out, parties and outings, which was fun.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Very, very high. After rent, bills and strictly budgeted extras, I didn't end the year having made much, some sort of London extra allowance would have been good, although I didn't take the internship to make money so it wasn't a big priority.

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There was a lot a short tube ride away, but not in the immediate area.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Quite a few, we did quite a bit of charity work, which was nice. (Although this was in work time)

    4/5
