The Role
Friendly environment with a very nice level of responsibility.
I got to know a few people around very well. However over the time, I did not mix with very many different people.
If I had a technical query, my direct supervisor would explain it contentedly. The guidance toward the project I was undertaking was limited, however.
By the nature of the programming task, the workload fluctuated, but I felt this couldn't be helped particularly.
I was given complete responsibility over the augmentation software of a contract.
It was useful experiencing an office environment; holding meetings and preparing documentation to company standards.
The Company
Everyone was very much to themselves in the office, bar a few conversations you'd have with your neighbour.
Initial uncertainty about start date and computer system problems, but ran well after that. Not hugely structured but I felt this was a good thing.
Except for pay and general perks, there wasn't any formal training.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
International Travel
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Healthcare from home
They work in quite an exciting industry for an engineer with military interests.
The Culture
I came to know them at the office and got on well. There weren't any form of company initiatives to promote social events though and any social affairs were organised by ourselves.
Crawley wasn't the nicest or most fun of areas but cheap if you did want to do anything.
Nothing was really happening.
There was a charity event organised, however there wasn't anything other than that.
