The Role
Doing a placement at IBM was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
The people at IBM were incredibly friendly and helpful. As an Industrial Trainee I felt genuinely valued at IBM, and was often told how much all the work I did helped my team and how much they appreciated it.
IBM were fantastic about providing support for you to look into what you wanted to do as a graduate, and even further on in your career. This included workshops, and opportunities to shadow IBMers and network.
I had a particularly busy role, and though this was challenging at times I gained a huge amount of experience and personal development from it.
I met a huge number of people outside of IBM as a respresentative of the company and was given a great deal of responsibility right from the start of my placement. I couldn't have asked for more!
I have already found that I am more dedicated to my studies, more confident, and more able to get involved with various things outside of university as I am now so practised in managing my time efficiently, thanks to my placement.

The Culture
IBM was very sociable! There are a lot of placement students and graduates in the South Bank, Portsmouth and Hursley offices especially so plenty of people to socialise with.
Portsmouth was a very reasonably priced place to live.
Portsmouth is a university town so there's enough to keep you occupied!
IBM had a lot of subsidised trips and excursions available - my housemate (another placement student at IBM) went for a long weekend break to Luxembourg with them! And there are also theatre trips, stand up comedy tickets etc.
