The Role
I found it difficult in the beginning, as I was unsure of what was expected of me but by the middle I was loving it and had lots of responsibility.
I built very good working relationships with my colleagues, they were approachable, friendly and included me in team activities - I felt fully immersed in the team.
I had regular discussions with my Manager where I was set individual targets, which meant that I felt I was really contributing to the team.
I was busy most of the time and if I did have free time, I would ask for more things to do, as there was always something for me to be doing.
By the end of the placement, I was carrying out my duties autonomously and was often given work from the other IT if they had too much.
I learnt many many skills over the year, for example... team work, communication, responsibility, business skills and time management.
The Company
My colleagues all work very hard so it's quite a professional environment, however it's quite sociable.
Very effecient. They followed all the rules/guidelines of the Uni.
In terms of personal training it was exceptional. The training sessions were fairly regular, but they were fun as well as informative. It gave the interns a chance to bond, as well as learn new things about their surroundings and themselves, and I personally found them really useful.
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare from home
Quite encouragingly, the intern who was here before me has already got a job back with the company. I think that whilst this is quite rare (for it to happen so quickly), it certainly is encouraging to see that it can happen.
The Culture
Everyday we meet up for lunch either at the canteen downstairs, and e-mails are always sent round to everyone if a night out is being organised or if its someones birthday, and nights out are a fairly regular occurence.
Pretty much affordable as long as you manage your allowance well.
Really great bars and clubs with a real European atmosphere.
As there were many people living there from other areas there were many opportunities, eg. sports, clubs, societies etc.
