The Role
I had incredible responsibility within my role, far greater than I ever expected. I learnt a lot during the year and was able to achieve more than I'd ever hoped for.
People were always willing to help and many provided great feedback throughout the year. I was given a chance to prove myself in a different role after 10 months based upon other peoples valuations of me and my work.
If I needed help then people were always willing to do so.
Mostly I had a lot of work to do, if I didn't then I went looking for something new.
I felt highly valued by my manager and people I worked with so I believe I had a lot of responsibility within my role. By the end of my placement I was creating reports that were being presented to the UKI General Manager on a weekly basis.
I've gained so much by doing a placement with IBM. There are certain aspects and skills that will be specific to IBM but I now have a completely different view and determination for my final year at university.
The Company
Great team, the office was very empty (the location has now been closed!)
Well organised, they did well to promote CV workshops and other events outside of the day-to-day role.
They invested good time explaining what you needed to work on throughout the year. You get a Personal Development Manager who works with you to help you progress.
Flexi Time
National Travel
Working from home
They were very helpful when it came to applying for a graduate role with them.. fingers crossed!
The Culture
Good at other locations, my location had very few placement students.
Cost of living wasn't bad.
Average, location now closed. London/Portsmouth had good reviews from colleagues.
Lots of clubs and societies to get involved with.
