The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my 6 weeks with Mott MacDonald
After I finished every piece of work, I was thanked and felt like I was a member of the team.
Everyone in the office was more than willing to answer any question I had, no matter how basic the question was!
Due to staff being away on annual leave, there was always enough work to do.
On some projects, I had very little responsibility (checking figures in reports etc), however on other projects I was let out onto site on my own without supervision.
The health and safety courses were very valuable and the skills in GIS, Microsoft Word/Excel that I gained will prove very useful during my MSc. I also learned a lot regarding contaminated land and hydrogeology which has proven very useful.
The Company
Quiet during the day, mainly because people were away on site visits, at meetings or busy with projects.
Most of the internship went to plan.
I think that the company has invested a lot in me, with the potential of me doing my MSc project with Mott MacDonald later this academic year.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
I am unsure at the moment as I have to complete my masters first, but after that I would rate my chances as quite good.
The Culture
The social scene at Mott MacDonald is great, there are so many young people there that it almost feels like its own university!
Living in Cambridge was the only slight issue, as cost of living is quite high. Rent wasn't a problem for me as I stayed with a relative, but I heard from colleagues that the average rent in the area was quite high.
The night life in Cambridge was good, however the only places to go that were within my budget were the local pubs.
These were not offered to me in the beginning, I had to ask about the various sporting clubs in the company, but I felt welcome to all the ones I joined.
