The Role
I felt I was given a lot of responsibility and my team were keen to train me and further develop my skills in Merchandising. I did a lot of varied work and the environment is relaxed and friendly.
I worked in a really close team and we all supported each others role. I was able to make decisions and my input did matter. I had a very good relationship with my colleagues.
My manager and other senior colleagues were very approachable and keen to help me develop in the role. I never was afraid to ask questions and I learnt a lot in my year.
I never felt really pressured and was never bored, there were always projects to work on. And being a direct link to suppliers meant there was consistent daily contact to manage as well.
I took on several responsibilities, and felt a valuable member of the team
The skills developed have definitely prepped me for final year, but also have given me the foundations of the Merchandising role which will help me when applying for Graduate Merchandising positions.
The Company
The atmosphere is very relaxed. You sit in cross functional teams (Buyers, Merchandisers, Garment Tech, Designers) so there was always a good mix of personalities.
Initially was fairly disorganised, but got better throughout the year.
I went on several training courses, both technical and behavioural. I was encouraged to visit stores and suppliers regularly.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Financial Bonus
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I was offered a job which I declined due to location.
The Culture
Not really. Everyone had to travel by car into work and some people had families/children to consider so there were rarely out of work social events.
Cost of living I believe was cheap (I didn't live in the area), for socialising you would need to travel out to Rugby or Leicester which isn't expensive when you get there but transport would be.
No nightlife in Lutterworth. You would have to travel to Leicester/Rugby.
I wasn't really aware of any. Towards the end of my placement they had set up a work Netball team but that was about it.
