The Role
I loved working at John Lewis. I got to work with some great people and i learnt a great amount that has given me a better understanding of my degree overall.
I got on extremely well with all of my colleagues and i would count them all as friends. This made working together everyday verty easy.
I felt i had support from my supervisers but i feel that i could have had more at times.
The work load on this placement was at times extreme. This was mainly due to understaffing on the department i was placed on.
I had quite alot of responsibilty on my department and i got more and more as i progressed through the year.
I believe i developed all of the essential skills needed for the buying role to a high standard whilst at John Lewis. The company offered great training courses which greatly assisted the developement of my skills and i learnt an incredible amount on the job each day.
The Company
My office was extremely hard working. As it was a small team we were constantly busy so the best way to decribe our office at times is frantic however i was apart of a fun team and there was always a friendly and fun atmosophere.
I feel it could have been more organised, When i started i only found out my department ten minutes before i was taken to meet them. I would have liked to have been able to prep myself a little more. Other than that i think it was very well organised.
There was a great amount of courses available at John Lewis that i took part in. This included everything from IT skills (excel courses) to Presentation courses. I think the amount of training on offer is great.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
As i have been fortunate enough to do a placement with them i may be able to be fast tracked through some of the applying stages on the graduate scheme. However to get a job with John Lewis is still incredbily difficult.
The Culture
The placement student tried to meet up regularly but work load often got in the way. This was down to us to organise though and we often did meet up it was a great social scene. The social scene between my team was great. We would often do things together after work and organise great team days.
Central London is an expensive place to work in however John Lewis had its own bar that was subsidised. This was very handy but for other places around the area it was often quite expensive.
There are many bars around the victoria area, with the west end very close by. There are many cool clubs and bars dotted all around this area.
There were many clubs and societies that you could join at john lewis where you can meet outside of work.
