The Role
I am naturally interested in the radio and music so I was excited to be going to a radio station for my placement. Whilst on my placement, I enjoyed everyday; although I would have liked to sample a more interesting and high-profile job.
There were five people in my department and we all went about our business without really interacting with one another. Naturally, I was given the worst jobs, so they may have valued me in that I was quietly doing the jobs they didn't want to and had avoided.
I rarely saw my manager. Possibly only two or three times in the whole placement.
I usually had a lot of work in the morning and then by around half two I had finished my workload and so had to either sit bored or fish around for more work on over departments.
I was trusted with very little responsibility. They placed me on the telephones and computers liasing with listeners which isn't really an important job in the grand scheme of a radio station.
I aim to work in the radio industry so from my placement I more understand the little parts that make up the machine of a whole radio station. However, I want to have a lot of a more high-profile and interesting and important job--so it wasn't a perfect insight or learning experience.
The Company
We worked constantly so there was little conversation. I did like the people but a few were quite unfriendly and overlooked me.
It was very well organised. I was always in the know with what was happening and such. I do feel that I could have seen the manager and discussed how I was getting on more.
They didn't invest in me at all.

Company Parties/Events
There are alot of BBC radios over the country and they said that if I was to apply they would put in a good word and reference!
The Culture
I didn't really get to know anyone because my department was so quiet and focused on the work at hand. Looking back, I seem to have been in a very determined department.
I live near the studio so I lived with my parents but Blackburn is among one of the cheapest places for accommodation in the whole country.
There's one long street of clubs and bars which are always packed. Compared to major cities though it doesn't compare.
I didn't really make good enough friends with anyone. I was more acquaintaces with them or just someone they would say 'hi' to in a morning.
