    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed the risk placement at GE Money Home Lending. I really got to know the different processes such as scorecards and delinquancy planning, and there was a lot of scope do do differnt things within my role.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I really got on with most of my colleagues and was respected by them all. Once I understood the role, I was able to help a lot of colleagues across different departments, especially within my own team. And I think they were grateful for my help.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The business is a businesses where changes take place all the time, so when managers change role there is time where you do not have a manager, so I did feel a bit lost at these times. However, when I did have a manager they were really helpful and helped me develop throughout the year.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Like any business, there were times when we were overloaded and would have to stay late, and other times when there wasn't much to be done. This can't be helped.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • In the end i was relied upon to do a lot of the planning. Without my aid, I think the process would have taken a lot longer.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills are so useful. Soft skills such as presentational, time managment, organisational skills will really help through out life. On top of this the technical skill will be very useful in the future as the skills in Excel and SAS are transferable to other risk roles.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • As long as you got your work done by the deadlines set, it would be a very relaxed atmosphere.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Before we started the placement, we had a welcome day, which was very useful to get to know the other interns, get an insight into your role and make living arrangements for the year. Once we started there setup was very well organised, we had introduction information, online training set up and overviews with different teams organised.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As well as over 5 days out of the office training, such as facilitation, presentation skills and influential skills. there was always online training which we could get involved with. But what I appreciated the most was the one to one sessions which were available to you at any time with your manager, where you could dicuss how you want to go forward, different things you would like to achive, how to go about this, and feedback.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Although GE is a really good company to work for, I would like to try other things.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were around 25 interns so we would often go out together, such as going into London, going shopping, going for meals, to the pub and nights outs.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • A we were quite close to london prices were a bit higher than at home, but because of the wage coming in everything was affordable.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Always a good night out with friends, just a bit limited on places to go.

    4/5
