The Role
It surpassed all of my expectations. I was fearing that it would be nothing but menial tasks however I was pleasantly surprised when I had real goals and objectives to work towards. I could clearly see how my work impacted on the team I was in and worked on the same type of tasks as my senior colleagues.
They welcomed me and treated me like on of the team straight away. I could see how my work impacted on them. When a job was well done they were quick to offer thanks. It was a nice working environment.
When I needed help my mentor and team were there to support me. They offered advice on how I could improve and develop.
On a few occasions I didn't have a lot to do however I asked team members and they were happy to find tasks for me to do. For the majority of the time I was kept busy.
I was given my on duties and responsibilities which I had to work to achieve. There were deadlines and ad hoc tasks as required.
It really was an invaluable experience and I am soo glad that I took part in the BAE Internship. The work I did was completely relevant to both my degree and future career plans. I have since had an interview for a graduate job (with a different company) and they were very impressed by the work experience that I gained at BAE, and noted how the tasks I completed were very similar to what their graduate scheme entailed.
The Company
Everyone was welcoming. It was just a quiet office i.e. no radio etc
It was a really well planned scheme. There was an induction from my mentor where I was set objectives. Then we had weekly 1-2-1's, a mid performance review and an end of internship review.
I received training for all of the packages I was going to use. When I needed help or guidance they were there to support me. I think I was treated very well.
I have applied to the Graduate Scheme...fingers crossed :)
The Culture
There weren't really any other interns at the same location as me. The graduates welcomed me and invited me out with them.
Not too expensive
Lots of pubs and clubs in the city
I never looked into this at all so I don't know.
