    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was great, a good balance of different types of work, and constantly supported by line manager and colleagues.

  • Welcomed me very warmly, invited me to socials, etc.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Great support, taught me to use programs and the company systems, helped me with any problems I had, told me good ways of approaching jobs, etc.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Varied quite a bit, sometimes there was a lot of work, other times I would be struggling to find things to do.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A good amount, but not too much, considering I am a placement student after all. I was sometimes the sole designer of certain elements, which underwent appoval of course.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Learnt a huge variety of useful skills, from CAD to business management, as well as risk management and general design.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Pretty good, friendly atmosphere, social but everyone knew people had work to do at the same time.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Start and set-up was a bit wonky with IT and HR stuff, but otherwise well-organised. Efficient and fast email and telephone system, clear avenues of support.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Allowed me to take training courses, I was also able to purchase some software that would greatly help me and the projects.

  • Definitely will consider working with them in future.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Good sporting events organised weekly or every other week, socials also organised prety much every week.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Not bad, outside London so not too cheap but not too expensive either. Was near the town centre so lots of places to eat/go to. Don't know about living expenses - lived at home during the placement.

  • Didn't really participate in them.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Lots of voluntary and charity work, sports teams to join, professional institutions to be a part of and more.
