The Role
Not much to do sometimes and had to find own things to do. Lots of reading/literature searches but this helped me to increase my knowledge of different areas of neuropsychology and psychometric tests.
Supervision by a clinical neuropsychologist every 2 weeks.
Not allowed direct contact with patients therefore only contact was through shadowing but this did allow me to get an idea of the work conducted on a daily basis by an Assistant Psychologist/ Clinical Neuropsychologist and was allowed to shadow in a variety of different situations.
Not allowed to deliver assesments to patients directly but I was allowed to score along at the same time as the Assistant Psychologist and to score assesments a skill which will come in useful in the future.
Skills and knowledge of scoring psychometric tests will come in useful during final year of study and beyond, as will the skills I developed communicating with my colleagues and writing essays/booklets for patient information.
The Company
Everybody very welcoming, encouraging and friendly.
Had to wait for a CRB check and to get set up on a log in.
Went to a seminar on brain injury and was encouraged to go on others.
I would like very much to be employed in the future by this organisation as I have been ancouraged to by my colleagues there.
The Culture
Everybody friendly and social events organised.
I lived with my parents during the placement.
Nightlife in Manchester city centre very good.
