The Role
I found my placement extremely useful and am very glad that I did it.
My colleagues were amazing. I really felt welcomed into the office and they were always willing to help and often checked up on how I was doing.
Support was excellent with my supervisor often checking up on me and other colleagues being able to help. There were times when I was unsure about what I should be doing, but you learn to utilise these times for the better as time goes on.
Initially it was a bit slow, but after a week or so I was able to start work on a project and from then on in, I had work to do the majority of the time.
Quite a lot. I was the sole developer for a product initially before moving on to team-based projects. In these projects I was not treated as an intern, but as an actual employee. I also occasionally led meetings.
The skills I learnt and developed on the job have been quite helpful in my degree studies.
The Company
The office was open-plan and the atmosphere was nice with people easily able to communicate and chat if needs be.
Initially I felt it was a bit poorly organised as there were delays in getting my PC/equipment, but my first project had been planned for a while. My moves to other projects were not planned in advance, but that wasn't an issue.
Little. I had to do the mandatory training that was company-wide, but didn't go on any other training courses or suchlike events.

If you don't score a certain score during the assessment process then you are not eligible to get a job-offer after you do a placement.
The Culture
I shared a house with 2 interns in a different department on site but never interacted with them at work. If I hadn't been in a house with them I wouldn't have realised that there were other interns on the site.
Housing was decently priced as it isn't really a student area, the only issue because of this is that they tend to be partly furnished. Cost of living was fairly standard for the north.
I guess the closest night-life would be in Stockport (10 min ride) or Manchester (20 min train) but I didn't go out whilst I was there so can't rate it.
There were touch-rugby and football clubs after work some days. I also went to the cinema a few times with my colleagues and to the Christmas Do.
