The Role
I had a great time at Thales. Met some fun and outgoing graduates and senior engineers and got some valuable work experience on real projects.
I felt that they had a lot of trust in my abilities. I was given enough freedom to get on with work the way I felt it should be approached but not so much that I was wasting time.
Enough guidance is given to start a task, and the supervisors are always there to answer any questions no matter how basic you may think they are! The supervisors let me take my own approach which helped build my confidence in the workplace.
There was always work to do however some tasks can be tedious. I imagine this is to be expected in every job! I felt at Thales that if you went looking for work and come across as eager and enthusiastic you will find plenty to keep you on your toes. A lot of this is technical work! Going in with the wrong attitude and it would be easy to slip under the radar and not get much work!
I was given a lot of responsibility. Towards the end of placement I was given permission to go ahead and conduct my own investigations on an area I believed may become a problem in future development.
I have noticed a huge impact in my final year project already. Beyond studies I was asked by Thales to apply for a graduate position and told that I would not require to go through the assessment center again but may have to attend a final Interview depending on the position
The Company
A relaxed and cheerful environment.
Work given to me was thought out well to compliment future tasks.
I was sent to an Agilent training day for High Speed Circuits.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
They have asked me to apply for a role with them.
The Culture
Everyone was very social and outgoing and often events would be organized.
Housing was rather expensive. (In Crawley)
The town (Crawley) is quite small so there is not much in terms of clubs. 2 main ones being Moka and JJ Whispers. There is a nice plethora of bars on the high street.
With Flexi time and half days on Friday there is plenty of time to fit in activities outside of work and there are a lot of Gyms with clubs and classes to attend.
