The Role
Very enjoyable and people very very willing to spend time with you explaining concepts and other important material.
I felt very valued. Coincidentally a lot of the junior staff were out of the office so from very early on I was given a lot of responsibility.
My supervisor was fantastic. We had a weekly catch up where he informed me on my performance and any improvements that I could make professionally and I was able to talk about what I had been doing. This also enabled me to ask about thinks that I would like to experience and he could go about putting me in touch with the right people.
I was kept very busy which is the way that I preferred it although I worked a 9 to 530 day pretty strictly.
I was given a lot of responsibility and pretty quickly felt like the work that I was doing was integral to the operation of the department.
A lot of the skills learnt in the 6 weeks were general skills that could be applicable to any work place which were very useful. In terms of actual accounting skills there is not a lot learnt as that usually comes as part of the graduate scheme.
The Company
People were very friendly and often asked your plans as well as which there were a few office meals and drinks for birthdays and such like.
Unbelievably well organised. We had an induction down in London before heading out to our regional offices where we received a lot of information and met all the other interns. From there all the plans were set out for the rest of your internship with very clear coordination and seamless transition.
They clearly invested a lot in us both in terms of training, making sure we had someone to go to if we needed help (at various levels of seniority) and various events put on for us as well.
Company Parties/Events
I received a job offer from them in the region I was working but have asked for a location swap within the same department. To secure this there is another interview but hopefully after performing well in the internship this should not be too difficult.
The Culture
Yes really good. Quite a few nights out, BBQs etc. and made some really good friends.
I lived at home and commuted in so cost was not too bad.
Would recommend finding an internship in Edinburgh during August (festival time), a really buzzing atmosphere.
There were not many through the organisation in Edinburgh, in that sense they are quite London centred however there is talk of this changing.
