The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship at EY because I was given a variety of work from numerous different colleagues and I quickly to settle into my team. I was also given the opportunity to visit their head office in London and shadow a partner.
I felt extremely valued by my team from the feedback I received from colleagues and the increase of work and responsibility I was given.
I was given excellent support from my colleagues throughout the internship, from regular formal counsellor meetings to colleagues taking time to explain the context of a task.
Downtime was minimised by the variety of tasks I was given, some ongoing and others a higher priority. The amount of work also increased as time progressed from becoming familiar with tasks and colleagues. Although I was still able have a lunch break with the other interns most days.
My responsibilities increased during the internship, and I was entrusted with important tasks for an executive director and a senior manager.
The internship highlighted the importance of time management and team working skills, both of which are essential for my degree studies and future work.
The Company
The atmosphere in my team was great fun and very comfortable. My colleagues were friendly, with a work hard and play hard attitude.
We started the internship with a 3 day induction with the other interns which made starting in the office less daunting. The counsellor meetings helped to ensured I was getting the most from my time with EY and the feedback forms provided valuable updates on my progress.
I was with the company for 6 weeks which did not allow time for formal training, but EY invested in my development with the induction, partner shadowing and facilitating me to organise a Corporate Social Responsibility day for my team.
Company Parties/Events
I have accepted a graduate job offer to work in the same team as my internship.
The Culture
Yes, there were plenty of social opportunities with fellow interns and colleagues throughout the internship, including a work bbq and leaving drinks for the industrial placement student in my team.
I lived in my student accommodation which was relatively cheap, as was the socialising.
The nightlife in Leeds is very diverse, with nice bars close to the office.
Yes, I attended many socials and organised a Corporate Social Responsibility day for my team to volunteer in a community gardens.
