The Role
I worked on such a wide range of projects, including High Speed Two, Victoria Station Upgrade, a tender for Riyadh Metro, Heathrow Terminal 2 Concourse B and Crossrail. From each project I gained new skills and I enjoyed each of my roles.
My supervisor made me feel valued for my contributions, by offering praise where necessary.
My supervisor and Line Manager were seated very near to me, and were very approachable, allowing me to attain advice and support with ease.
Each of my project roles kept me busy, however I always felt that I could handle the workload and maintain a great work/life balance.
On some projects I had greater responsibilities than on other projects, however I felt that as the year went on, I was progressively given more responsible roles.
My supervisor signed off many of my Development Objectives, and I attended various CPD presentations, so I feel my placement year will aid me in my journey to become a Chartered Civil Engineer. The engineering knowledge gained during my placement will certainly help me in my next two years of studies at university.
The Company
Mott MacDonald have been fully supportive of me since I was matched with them in the first year of my studies at The University of Surrey.
Company Parties/Events
The Culture
After work drinks were arranged fairly regularly allowing placement students and colleagues to socialise together in a nice environment.
Plenty of bars and clubs to enjoy!
Football one evening after work each week was arranged for the department.
