About You
The Open Day provided a useful insight to the firm as it was filled with useful activities, presentations and provided ample opportunity to talk with many different people from the firm.
RPC made sure that every Open Day candidate felt welcome and that the day was more a tool for us than it was for them, emphasising at every stage that the firm wanted us to take everything that we could from the day. Everyone that we met was very friendly.
As it was an Open Day rather than a work placement we did not require 'guidance' as such but we were provided with a detailed timetable and were free to ask questions throughout the day.
There were lots of activities and we learnt lots about the firm and the recruitment process which proved invaluable during the application procedure.
The Company
The Open Day was very well structured and the firm adhered to the detailed timetable given to us at the beginning of the day. This allowed us to fit in so much during the day!
Everybody that we met during the day was extremely friendly. The open plan offices and general approachable feel of the firm creates a friendly yet professional atmosphere.
The whole focus of the day was for each Open Day candidate to get to know the firm and to find out anything we wanted to. The firm invested the whole day in us and everyone made sure that we could get the most out of our time at RPC.
There were a number of presentations on practice areas, the training contract and graduate recruitment which gave us a well-rounded impression of what it might be like to train with the firm. We were able to speak to a number of trainees on the day as well, all of whom gave us a "true picture" of working life!
The Open Day was extremely useful in understanding the culture of the firm as you got to see first hand the approachable nature of everyone and yet feel the ambitious and professional side of the firm as well.
The presentations and activities more affirmed that I was choosing the right career, and that RPC offers great training in this profession.
Everything Else
I travelled by train and was reimbursed fully.
There was a 'networking' opportunity at the end of the day in the form of a drinks reception with many members of the firm. Additionally we were able to speak at length to current trainees and the graduate recruitment team.
The drinks reception at the end of the day was one of the best parts of the Open Day as it allowed us the opportunity to talk with many different members of the firm - lawyers at different levels from all practice areas and members of the graduate recruitment team.
The firm seems very keen on activities and runs a house system which provides a bit of competition across both sporting and social events.
The firm packed a lot into the one day and it proved a great opportunity to learn more about RPC as well as another chance for them to assess me on a more informal basis.
