The Role
I got to work with really nice people and all my supervisors ensured I got a good mix of different tasks.
I was given jobs which had a clear contribution to the audit and all the people I worked with were positive about the importance of these.
Although there was a lot of self-guidance my supervisors were good at demonstrating the different sections of the audit. When I needed help there were always people to point me in the right direction.
Most of the time I had a set of tasks rolling over so I had plenty to get on with.
The sections of the audit I worked on were my responsibility and if there were problems then I needed to resolve them - it was good to work independently and when I had missed something the supervisors gave me help not criticism.
Many of the skills I learnt were specific to a career in accountancy but they definitely helped me develop my confidence in presenting and work on communicating clearly.
The Company
Everyone was friendly and there were office nights out. My only comment would be that more organised social activities for the different groups of interns would have made it even better.
It was well structured and gave a really clear view of what a career in professional services and working for Grant Thornton would be like.
I started my internship with a business course at their training location which was a great introduction. The staff were always ready to give me advice and all the structure of the internship means you need to self-evaluate and draw as much as you can from the experience.
I really enjoyed working there and was offered a graduate place for next year. The company ethos is very appealing and from my experience I feel as if i can contribute and have an impact.
The Culture
There were plenty of activities at the initial training event but less later on. The nature of audit means that I often worked away from the other placement students so it was hard to meet up.
I found most things were moderately priced considering how close to the city center we were.
All interns are invited to the office events.
