    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

    • All the staff and fellow vacation scheme students were extremely friendly; Human Resources provided research tasks to undertake during quiet periods so there was always something to do.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?

    • Although work in departments I was sat in was not always readily available, staff were always appreciative of any efforts I did make and were happy and supportive of my presence.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?

    • Daily talks from staff in different practice areas would provide useful information on both applying to the firm and starting a legal career in genereal. Staff across the firm were always happy to give advice and speak honestly about life at Stephenson Harwood.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?

    • Alot of talks, which sometimes ment that I couldnt actually do much in the office.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?

    • I was given a huge amount of responsibility right from the start. I was involved in litigation at the very high end and was given the opportunity to attend a high profile case on my own.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    • The skills I have developed at Stephenson Harwood have helped me adapt to life as a lawyer, and enhanced skills in meeting deadlines, communication and research skills.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?

    • The atmosphere was relaxed but everyone was working hard. People were happy to take time out to answer any queries I had.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?

    • It was structured extremely effectively. We had talks in the morning - on different departments and HR were prompt in letting us know if there wewre any changes to the schedule

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

    • On the first day we were given an introduction to the firm. Over the rest of the placement talks were given on the firm's business strategy; on every different practise group so we were given an indepth insight into SH.

    • I will have to wait and see.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?

    • All of us got along from the start.

    • The City is expensive but there were lots of affordable shops and bars to go to.

    • London has a busy nightlife and lots of diverse bars/restuarants to visit.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?

    • I am very sporty and trainees asked me to play football and cricket with them which was really fun!
