The Role
I really enjoyed building my technical skills while completing valuable work.
I had responsibility of a share of the work in my team, if I hadn't had been there to do it they would have needed to hire someone else. This made me feel extremely valued.
My managers / supervisors provided me with long-term career goal support. However, it was my colleagues who gave me the most guidance for my daily tasks.
At times I'd like to have been slightly busier. I was given the option to pick up more work.
I had the responsibility to work unattended, work at home and also to complete the work I was allocated.
My colleagues put a lot of effort into helping me develop my programming skills, this has helped me a huge amount with my degree studies!
The Company
It was mainly individual working at our desks but we had regular tea breaks to have a chat and a break!
I wasn't given many details prior to the placement. However, during the placement we were given clear details on what to expect when.
My colleagues invested a lot of time in developing my technical skill. They put on extra workshops and allowed me to spend some of my working week doing educational activities.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym

Working from home
I am likely to reapply as a graduate; however, this is not guaranteed employment after completing a placement year.
The Culture
IBM arranged several events for placement students to mix; including a BBQ and meal out.
It wasn't extremely cheap, but it wasn't London prices
There are no clubs in the area, but there are pub quizzes
IBM encourage volunteering and activities outside of work. I participated in many Women In Technology events.
