The Role
It was a fantastic opportunity and I did really enjoy it, it just wasn't quite the right industry for me.
I am quite a shy person so it took a while to settle in, but once I had I really got on with everyone and they were all so friendly and helpful to me.
I got a lot of support and IBM also has its own online training courses and advice which really helped.
Some days were very busy, but some days were a lot quieter. I worked in event organisation so when there was a period of no events it could get quiet.
At first I didn't have much because I was learning the ropes but once I was happy with what I was doing I organised my own group of events for which I was class manager and responsible for.
Although it wasn't quite the right industry for me, I took away skills that I will use again and again in my career. I learnt so much and finished so much more mature than when I started. Definitely a worthwhile placement.
The Company
During the events I had a lot of fun, but things could be less entertaining in the office. It was small and everyone was friendly but most of the day was work, work, work and very few breaks.
Very good organisation. Some improvements could be made but much of our year was actually identifying them and working to improve them for the future.
There is a very good support team behind the placement students. They really try their best to support you throughout the year with regular meetings with your manager and other colleagues focused on career development.

Working from home
I might get a job with them again but it's not in the industry I want to work for.
The Culture
A lot of the other students met up regularly and there were quarterly meetings where we would all socialise. A great emphasis was on keeping in touch.
I lived at home so there was no change.
I don't do any nightlife activities.
We were encouraged to do volunteering and "give back" where we could do non-work-related activities. There was a good social club at work too.
