The Role
I felt very comfortable as soon as i walked through the doors. The atmosphere was really friendly and made the environment in the office a pleasure to work in.
The mentor system was fantastic. I had regular check ups with my mentor and felt very happy asking him questions at any point during my internship. We set goals at the start of the month and revised them and ensured they were on track at regular intervals.
I found that at first when I had finished a job that i was left with nothing to do. After emailing my mentor i found that there was a place in the office where colleagues put work they needed completing. From then on in I was never sitting around idly. As long as you were proactive in the office there was always something to do.
I was set tasks by my in charges and left to ask appropriate questions as and when i required. I was also given the sole responsibility to research a potential client and compile all relevant information.
Networking and presentation skills are ones which will be useful wherever I go in the future. There are a variety of other skills that i have implemented in other aspects of my university life such as how to effectively tailor my wording to talk to various different types of people.
The Company
As soon as i arrived I found that i was in the company timetable, booked to a variety of jobs.
I spent a day at the start of my internship doing training. We learnt how to get the most out of my internship and what our schedules would look like. We also spent two days at a manor house that Grant Thornton owns, learning presentation skills and how to communicate effectively.
National Travel
At the end of my internship i was offered a full time graduate job with Grant Thornton.
The Culture
Everyone was really friendly and we got on very well, regularly going out for lunch and on occasions a social drink.
