The Role
Invaluable experience, it has given me motivation for my degree of a level I couldn't have hoped for
From the very start I was made to feel welcome and valued. The office atmosphere is exceptionally encouraging, interested, accepting and friendly
in my six weeks there, I learned more applicable and relevant knowledge than in my entire previous year at university. My supervisor was incredibly generous with his time and really enabled me to deliver a high quality and usable piece of work.
it was made sure that I always had a project to work on, at the same time ensuring I would get an insight into and experience the whole range of tasks possible on the department I was with.
even though I was at the time only a first-year student, I was immediately given a real- world project. My work is actually being implemented and built, which has given me a huge sense of reward and accomplishment.
several months into this year at university I have not encountered any new material that I didn't experience or see during my placement, having already learned a significant dart of it in practice. It is extremely encouraging to be able to see the link between theory and real practice every day.
The Company
I couldn't imagine it being better. Always professional but warm. I never felt uncomfortable or had any unpleasant experience.
I was well taken care of, always sure who to turn to for help or advice.
There was a great emphasis on all my projects and tasks, as well as teaching me techniques and modes of practice, to benefit me in terms of building my personality and enhance my professional skills.
Company Parties/Events
From the interview onwards I have been extremely enthusiastic about starting a career with arup after finishing my degree!
The Culture
Company social very inventive and had a great atmosphere, and I could see that close friendships had formed among colleagues.
A lot cheaper than university life!
I am not a night life person, so I wouldn't know.
There were almost daily announcements and invitations.
